Technology has the power to transform education, yet in many low- and middle-income countries that potential is not fully realised. EdTech Hub works with governments and education partners to turn evidence into action, aiming to improve learning outcomes for all learners. Through research, innovation, and technical assistance, we support the design, testing, and scaling of effective EdTech solutions that strengthen education systems and deliver lasting impact.

Bridging the Global Evidence Gap

The Challenge

Technology has the potential to help address the global learning crisis in myriad ways — by expanding access in resource constrained environments; offering personalised and engaging learning content; supporting teacher continuous professional development; strengthening digital literacy; and more. Unfortunately, that potential is not being realised. Policymakers and other decision-makers face an overwhelming choice of technology solutions, are unclear on what works and what doesn’t, and are forced to make decisions based on limited or no evidence.

How EdTech Hub Helps

Education technology is not a silver bullet for solving entrenched challenges, but with the right evidence, guidance and support, we can see real impact for learners and their communities. EdTech Hub is dedicated to providing governments and decision-makers with the evidence and practical support they need to build lasting EdTech solutions tailored to education systems in  low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). To achieve this, the Hub employs an integrated service delivery model that combines 1) research; 2) innovation; and 3) technical assistance (TA).

  • Research: EdTech Hub has implemented 45+ research studies to date, filling critical evidence gaps on learning outcomes. However, recognizing that research on its own cannot transform education systems, the Hub partners with government ministries and local implementers to translate evidence into action.
  • Innovation: EdTech Hub’s Sandboxes support local education system actors in the process of launching, testing, and scaling innovative EdTech solutions. while the
  • Technical Assistance (TA): EdTech Hub’s TA support is on-demand and just-in-time through the EdTech Hub Helpdesk function. Where long-term, in-depth support is needed, the Hub works shoulder-to-shoulder with ministry partners through embedded placements.

Taken together, these pillars of the EdTech Hub integrated approach ensures that those leading education systems in LMICs have the data they need — when they need it — and the support necessary to translate those findings into cutting edge EdTech solutions that are contextually relevant, logistically feasible, and demand driven.

EdTech Hub Contributing to Global Change

EdTech Hub is currently operating on an 8-year lifecycle. It is one of the most critical investments in closing evidence gaps in the education sector. We’re proud to provide robust value to decision-makers, funders and implementers, always leading with the end users — teachers and learners — in mind. The following represent some of the core impact made from the investments and collaborations that help EdTech Hub meet our mission:

Through our work with ministries, governments, and implementers we have engaged an estimated 2 million teachers.

Our work has indirectly reached an estimated 62.2 million learners through evidence-informed teaching and education systems.

Working globally and in collaboration with diverse partners and stakeholders, we’ve worked in 118+ countries to support needs and strategies for improving education quality, access, and effectiveness!

Our Integrated Approach to evidence generation and strategic support has helped close more than 50 evidence gaps.

Our robust research and engagement strategy has led to successfully contributing to more than 30 EdTech policies and strategies.

We exist to share vital research, evidence, guidance and tools to benefit the sector, and have produced +570 knowledge products (and growing!).

Our Impact

Follow our stories about the role of education technology. We highlight how EdTech is changing the lives of marginalised children and girls by supporting learning in emergencies, promoting gender equity in education, and more.

When I look at all that EdTech can achieve—more connected students who might otherwise get lost in a system not designed for them; teachers getting the professional development they need to excel in the profession; data to inform decisions that impact millions of learners and entire countries—I see unprecedented educational opportunity.”
