Bio

At my home organisation, Open Development and Education (OpenDevEd), I am Co-Director. On EdTech Hub, I serve as Senior Research Lead, leading research in Tanzania, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria. Additionally, I lead research with IDRC on understanding how AI and conflict and crisis may affect education systems over the next 10 years. I provide expertise to the AI Observatory, supporting horizon scanning. I contribute to the Helpdesk requests, learning briefs, and global public goods, responding to requests on topics such as teacher professional development, structured pedagogy, education data management, personalised adaptive learning, and AI in education. I am a co-investigator on Unlocking Data, an initiative focused on improving the use of education data for decision-making.

I have over 12 years of international education research, development, and innovation experience. My PhD explored injustices in open and online education in South Africa, highlighting how historical inequities, cultural imposition, and economic dependence continue to shape education today. I have also pioneered EdTech initiatives such as Solar Powered Learning in South Africa and Mobile Education for Smart Technology in India. My main goal is to tackle the material, geopolitical, and cultural-epistemic inequalities in education systems.
