Our work in the region

EdTech Hub works with governments, local institutions and development partners across Asia to make evidence central to the use of technology in education. We support national strategies, conduct research rooted in local contexts, and advise on the design and implementation of EdTech interventions. Our focus is on improving learning outcomes, particularly for girls and marginalised learners, and ensuring technology contributes to inclusive and effective education systems. We also explore how EdTech can strengthen climate awareness and resilience, helping learners and communities prepare for and respond to environmental challenges while safeguarding learning in times of crisis.

Why and how we work here

Asia is a region of rapid educational growth and technological adoption, yet persistent barriers continue to limit access, equity, and quality. Education systems are diverse, spanning five regions — South Asia, East Asia, Southeast Asia, West Asia, and Central Asia — and four levels of learning from pre-primary to tertiary. Countries within these regions vary significantly in terms of educational needs, as well as the infrastructural and human capacities required to meet those needs. Many governments are turning to technology to expand opportunities, but efforts are often fragmented, under-resourced or not fully guided by evidence.

How we add value across the region

We bring together evidence, contextual expertise, and trusted partnerships through an integrated approach to support governments and partners in making thoughtful, informed decisions about the role of technology in education. Where relevant, we test solutions in sandboxes to ensure practical, contextually relevant insights. Our work strengthens systems by focusing on equity, relevance, and long-term impact.

Inform decisions with evidence

We provide practical insights and research to governments, development partners, NGOs and EdTech providers, which show what works, for whom and in which contexts.

Improve coordination and coherence

We help align EdTech initiatives across departments and partners, reducing duplication and increasing impact.

Place equity at the centre

We focus on girls, marginalised learners, and low-resource communities, and explore how technology can support learning resilience.

 Strengthen systems for lasting change

We help develop policies, frameworks, and capacity so EdTech investments are effective, scalable, and sustainable.

Story of change

In June 2022, Pakistan’s monsoon season, exacerbated by climate change, triggered the worst flooding in recent history, which has killed more than 1,700 people. As the waters receded, the broader implications for children emerged, including the impact on the education of 3.5 million children.

Research from EdTech Hub explores the education response to climate emergencies following the floods, and highlights the importance of utilising existing, more accessible technologies to ensure learning continuity.

Latest updates from Asia

“As an Expert Staff to the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education for Educational Technology, I am more than happy with the support from EdTech Hub through the ASEAN-UK SAGE programme on developing our national educational technology strategy.  They have provided important input and support through global best practices, and particularly on cross-country learning. They were very collaborative in ensuring their inputs were relevant to Indonesia’s context. As a part of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, we look forward to continued collaboration with them”
